Desperately Seeking Web Log File Standards
November 22, 2002
Many log file analyzers, OpenWebScope, for example, report
the useless term "hits" as the more-useful-to-know term
"page views." There are also different definitions of what
constitutes a visitor session. Some programs say that if a
visitor to your site is inactive for 10 minutes or more and
then they come back, they count as a new visitor. Obviously
users shouldn't be counted twice, but when you deal with
dynamic IP addresses, it's hard to know if the user with IP
address 64.217.243.22 was the same person as it was 10
minutes ago. Link:

Monitoring your web traffic online - Part II log analysis
tools
August 31, 2001
In this issue I am inviting the more adventurous individuals
to start testing and evaluating a professional "log analysis
tool" to complement and eventually partly replace your
"online live tracker" system. Link:

Open Web Scope
I love software that is packed with value and easy to use.
For the past year I have been evaluating web log server
statistic packages. These are of incredible value to a web
marketer who wants to know where his visitors come from,
what words and phrases they are using to find his site in
the search engines, and which pages they are reading most
frequently. Link:

Log Analysis - A Tribute to success - Website Management
A completed website that is listed in search engines, hosted
on a reliable server, and ready for action is a great thing.
It holds nothing but promise and potential for greatness. A
new site owner will look at the site with pride. Eventually,
however, that pride turns to worry. Why? Because questions
start to arise. Link:
